Clerics attack Nawaz Sharif with shoes in Lahore madrasa

A local court here on Monday sent the main accused, who hurled shoe at former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, along with his two accomplices to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. Video footage showed Sharif was shocked and shaken in the immediate aftermath of the incident. The student also managed to reach in front of Sharif and chanted "Labbaik Ya Rasoolullah" slogan.

The shoe hit the leader of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) on his shoulder, reported The Express Tribune.

The man was immediately caught and thrashed by the audience.

He was later handed over to the police.

Pakistan Police have said the attacker, identified as Talha Munawwar, is a former student of the seminary.

Religious parties especially Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan had held Sharif and his party (PML-N) responsible for making an attempt to change a clause related to finality of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in the Constitution.

The guy who threw ink at the Foreign Minister, Faiz Rasool, told the police that he vents out his anger as the PML-N had tried to change the finality of the Prophet in the Constitution.

Incidents of humiliating parliamentarians have not received support from society and thousands of persons having no links with politics also condemn this new kind of behaviors in Pakistani politics. Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), said the culture of lack of tolerance should not be promulgated.

PML-N leader Rana Mashhood said that the party was anticipating such an incident because there is a frustration on part of the opposition due to PML-N's rising popularity.
