Killing of SUNY student from Long Island under investigation

His name is not being released, but authorities say it is Anderson's ex-boyfriend, who is also a nursing student at Binghamton.

Police are investigating a possible murder after a 22-year-old Binghamton University student is found dead in her apartment and authorities now say they have a person of interest.

Today, police declared her death a homicide after conducting an autopsy.

According to the Press & Sun-Bulletin, Binghamton police responded to a welfare complaint at 23 Oak St., around 12:53 p.m. Friday and discovered Haley Anderson's body.

The statement indicated Anderson and the other student had a "previous domestic/romantic relationship". Police said the male student had left the country by an global flight, before authorities found Anderson's body.

"The Binghamton University community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of senior nursing student Haley Anderson, whose death is being investigated by the Binghamton Police Department".

Anderson - who was originally from Westbury, New York, which is in Long Island - lived about a mile from the university. University officials said there is no threat to public safety.
