Kristen Wiig joins 'Wonder Woman 2' cast as villain Cheetah

Director Patty Jenkins has announced that Kristen Wiig is on board to essay the role of antagonist Cheetah in "Wonder Woman 2". (In the comics, Minerva is British.) But Wiig is a versatile actor who's demonstrated that she can handle heavier material in films like The Skeleton Twins and Welcome to Me. "So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family".

After leaving us amazed and enthralled with Wonder Woman - one of the best superhero films ever made, Fans are looking forward to the sequel - Wonder Woman 2 with as much gusto if not more.

Although Minerva isn't the only person to take up the Cheetah mantle - the first being debutante Priscilla Rich - she's arguably the most beloved, having been introduced in George Pérez's celebrated Wonder Woman run in the '80s.

Veronica Cale would be the ideal role for someone like Wiig, who already looks the spitting image of the comic book counterpart. Plus, if the film leaned into the Godwatch storyline, it would be able to bring in characters like Dr. Cyber who may never actually get their own one-on-one shot against Diana, but would round out the cast of a movie quite nicely.

Other rumors are swirling around the highly-anticipated Warner Bros./DC Entertainment sequel, including a potential setting in the '80s during the Cold War and Chris Pine's possible return as Steve Trevor (perhaps in a flashback). "This is going to be WONDERful!" she posted on Twitter. Filming, though, is set to start in the United Kingdom this spring, with the film itself now scheduled for November 1 2019. Given her work on shows like Saturday Night Live and films like the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, there's little doubt that Wiig has developed a reputation as more of a comedic actress than an action star.
