Mourinho shrugs off criticism from 'worst manager' De Boer

Mourinho shrugs off criticism from 'worst manager' De Boer

His wonderful brace against Liverpool might have surprised non-Manchester United fans given it was his first start in the Premier League in 2018 but it didn't surprise the Old Trafford faithful.

De Boer was in charge of Palace for only five games, winning one match in the EFL Cup, but the Eagles failed to score or collect a point in the shortest reign for a Premier League manager.

"I try to give the best to the kids", said Mourinho.

Mourinho went on to credit United's academy staff and his predecessor Louis van Gaal for their role in Rashford's development and insisted the player remains in safe hands under his own leadership.

"He's fine. He's happy that the team is getting results", Mourinho stated.

Across the Premier League and in Europe he has been on the pitch for nearly 1,700 minutes.

Sanchez's signing pushed Rashford out of contention for a starting position.

Rashford never lets Mourinho down and that counts in his favour.

We're starting to play more like a team and Rashford stepping up in Anthony Martial's absence is testament to that.

As for Sevilla, manager Vincenzo Montella has made just one adjustment to the team which started the goalless draw in Spain last month.

On Saturday, Rashford marked his return to the side with two goals against Liverpool, and Jose Mourinho has chose to reward the England global with a second outing in three days.

Sanchez's happiness at Old Trafford has been called into questions in recent weeks. The boos that greeted his 70th-minute substitution for Marouane Fellaini on Saturday suggest United supporters agree.

"Frank respects Jose a lot and was simply pointing out that, if Rashford was playing for Ajax and had one or two bad games, he would still start the third game". Mourinho is aware of such history surrounding United and as long as Rashford's performances remain at a high level, he will continue to get opportunities.

The Red Devils are back in action on Tuesday night, when they face LaLiga outfit Sevilla for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, which is finely poised at 0-0.
