He said they would field their own candidate if the Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led party didn't respond in affirmative to their proposal.

'Extraordinary steps are needed to remove the sense of deprivation among the people of Baluchistan, he said.

"In the name of Balochistan, provincial assemblies were turned into markets", he said.

The election was held after 51 newly elected senators took oath in the House.

The only names floated for the Senate chairman slot came from six-member Senators' group from Balochistan.

Today, Fata and MQM senators have said that they will also be voting for Sanjrani and Madviwala.

Sadiq Sanjrani, who has never been to any legislature previously, is also believed to be enjoying support of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz tweeted a series of blistering messages following the Senate chairman elections. "For the first time in history someone from my community has been elected to Senate", she told reporters in parliament house.

Although the PPP's pick for deputy chairman has yet to be announced publicly, Saleem Mandviwala is considered to be the front-runner for the position, the source said.

The PML-N, which appeared to be floundering without the backing of other major players in politics, held meetings with allies today to finalise their nominees for the top posts after Sanjrani emerged as the joint opposition's top contender for chairman Senate on Sunday. However, just a day later, it announced that it would vote for the panel announced by the Balochistan chief minister. Bizenjo was accompanied by a delegation of independent senators-elect from Balochistan.

He said that the Jamaat-e-Islami will support the PML-N in the elections for Senate Chairman and they will visit their leaders soon.

In a lighter moment, all senators clapped and banged tables in appreciation when a new member, from a marginalised Hindu caste, entered the chamber.

Following the adjournment of the session, nomination papers for the Senate chairman and deputy Chairman were submitted at the house of 104-members.

It was also his proposal that the matter of announcement of a candidate for the chairman slot should be left to Nawaz Sharif, while the slot of deputy chairman should be given to the coalition parties which would finalise the candidate after mutual consultation.

The political parties were scrambling till last minute to get the upper hand through election of chairman.

'As per our promise to the Baluchistan chief minister, we will support the PPP's candidate for deputy chairman of the Senate, Khan assured a delegation of the senators-elect from Baluchistan. The move, however, met failure.
