Police officer killed in Clinton, Missouri standoff

Police were finally able to enter to home shortly after midnight, Tuesday night when they found the suspect dead. According to CNN, the two other officers are in stable condition and are being treated for gunshot wounds, one in the arm and the other in the shoulder.

When police arrived at the home, Sgt. Lowe said a man fired at the responding officers from inside the residence.

According to the Highway Patrol, Morton served with as a full-time police officer with the Clinton force from February 12, 2015 until January 10, 2017.

In the shooting death of Gary Michael, the suspect Ian McCarthy was charged with first-degree murder. The women were not injured, Lowe said.

For the second time in less than a year, a police officer has been killed in the line of duty in Clinton, Missouri.

It was seven months ago to the day that Officer Gary Michael was killed after he was shot during a traffic stop on August 6. He is survived by his parents and siblings.

What Happened In Clinton, Missouri?

"Rest in peace Officer Morton". He returned to full-time duty last September, one month after another officer was fatally shot. "He came back to the department after Officer Michael was shot and killed".

Sergeant Bill Lowe spoke to the cameras about the shooting incident and the death of an officer, early March 7, 2018.

Fox 4 reports this is the second #police officer killed in the line of duty in Clinton, Missouri in the past year. Numerous agencies assisted including Clinton PD, Henry County Sheriff's Office and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. They confirmed that the women who were heard on the call were not injured.

Sgt. Lowe said Morton had been with the department for a while.

The shooter barricaded himself in the home, leading to a almost two-hour standoff, Lowe said.

When Harley Graff heard about the shooting death of a police officer in Clinton late Tuesday, he looked to find out if it was an officer he knew. At the time, it was the first officer to die in the line of duty in Clinton.
