Evelyn Sanguinetti said she disagreed with the gubernatorial candidate on the issue of life and of gay marriage

GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner introduced his running mate, Wheaton City Councilwoman Evelyn Sanguinetti, to patrons at the newly rebuilt Sprout's Inn during a heavy lunchtime crowd on Wednesday.

Rauner announced Sanguinetti's selection Tuesday morning and then took her on a statewide fly-around lasting Wednesday and Thursday.

The two spoke to the local media after shaking hands with the lunch crowd.

After their campaign platform discussion regarding Illinois' sad financial condition, the duo was asked about social issues.

Rauner said he wanted to put gay marriage on a referendum before the voters and said he supported a woman's "ability to choose...I believe in some common sense regulations and restrictions so it's rare and safe, but I support a woman's ability to decide."

Sanguinetti, however, differed with the top of the ticket.

"On the issue of life...I must say, my mother chose me and she had me at age15," she said. "For this reason, I am pro-life. I also believe in marriage with the traditional defintion."

Sanguinetti added that while she and Rauner "are apart on social issues", they both recognize that Illinois is broken in many other ways.

Regarding ADM's request for $20 million in tax breaks to keep its corporate headquarters and the 150 employees that go with it in Illinois, more than likely moving from Decatur to Chicago, Rauner said the climate must be changed and improve and the state should "move away" from special deals for business.
