Discussions include marketing, branding and potential expansion

Quincy served host for this year's Amtrak corridor meeting and officials are looking to the future.

Along with discussion on ridership numbers for the Illinois Zephyr and the Carl Sandburg, the two trains that run between Quincy and Chicago, expansion is on the mind of many of the attendees.

While links from the line off to the Quad Cities or over to Springfield to hook up with the under-construction high speed rail corridor are possible, Derrick James with Amtrak says funding must be in place.

James says the current ridership numbers between Quincy and Chicago are strong and bode well for the future.

State Sen. John Sullivan of Rushville said the state budget has $38 million for Amtrak and that is the most the state has ever provided.

Others attending today's conference in Quincy include Mayor Kyle Moore, State Rep. Jil Tracy, State Sen. Darin LaHood of Peoria, State Rep. Donald Moffitt of Galesburg, State Rep. Norrine Hammond of Macomb and Mayor Mike Inman of Macomb.
