County will wait until law becomes official in June
The Adams County Board voted to support Adams County Clerk Georgia Volm's stance on same sex marriage licenses.
Becky Weed (R-District 2) made the motion to agree with Volm's decision to wait until issuing any licenses until the Illinois law becomes official on June 1.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan has told Illinois' county clerks they have the right to immediately issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples following a federal judge's ruling last month Illinois' original ban was unconstitutional.
The County Board will also send a letter to State Sen. John Sullivan (D-Rushville) to oppose a Senate Bill Sullivan is co-sponsoring that would give the state the authority to legislate placement of wind turbines throughout the state and supercede the county's authority.
The Legislative and Judicial Committee also provided a noise ordinance for Board members to review.
