Scams continue in Quincy area

1 year, 3 months ago from QPD

Victim(s) are being asked for money by phone and/or e-mail

The Quincy Police Department continues to receive information from citizens about two scams the are very popular now.

The first is being done by phone and email. The victim will receive an e-mail or phone call from someone that identifies him or herself the caller as a family member or friend.  The person will indicate he or she has been arrested and is in need of bond money.  The caller will give the victim information to send the money by wire so it can be posted as bail.

The second scam is an aggressive caller who states he is an IRS employee.  He threatens the victims telling them they need to send the IRS money immediately or they will be arrested and charged with several criminal offenses.

Remember, never give out your social security number, bank account numbers or other personal information over the phone unless you initiated the contact and are for certain with whom you are speaking.
