Holes 3 and 4 will be under construction at Westview Golf Course, starting September 2. Work to renovate the green on Hole 4 and different areas throughout Hole 3 should be completed by Memorial Day 2015, depending on weather.
Beginning September 2, the course layout for Holes 1 through 18 and 19 through 27 will be adjusted. Holes 3 and 4 will be closed, with Holes 21 and 20 taking their place respectively. The Third Nine will include seven playable holes while the work is completed.
Westview has also taken a proactive approach to becoming environmentally friendly. In 2011, the staff enrolled in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
Audubon’s mission is to provide a better quality of life for patrons and wildlife through environmental planning, reduction in chemical applications, water conservation, creating wildlife habitat and educating the public.
“We’re aiming for a golf course that is attractive to both golfers and wildlife,” Golf Course Superintendent Rick Miles said.
He envisions golfers enjoying the beauty of the golf course along with creating a natural balance with wildlife and maintenance practices. One project staff is excited about is the wildflower gardens between the fairways on Holes 1 and 10.
“Positive feedback from the golfing community who enjoyed the wildflowers while playing, or just the visual impact from the clubhouse grounds is very rewarding,” Miles said.
The staff added an additional wildflower garden on the Third Nine, enhancing wildlife habitat and providing a beautiful array of blooming flowers throughout the growing season.
Westview’s goal is to become certified through the Audubon Program, and educate the public that they care about the environment and the people who use the course throughout the year.
