Coroner is looking for help to identify Jane Doe

Human remains have been found at the scene of Sunday night's fire at Salvage Lumber.

Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning held a news conference to make the announcement Monday afternoon. Investigators from the State Fire Marshall's office were expected to arrive in Quincy later in the day.

The five-alarm fire happened at 8:20 p.m. at 219 Oak Street. The majority of emergency personnel had left the scene by midnight, but one crew remained on to guard against "hot spots."

Henning said he was notified around 11 a.m. Monday morning that upon routine investigation, remains were found on the north side of the structure in what appeared to be a storage room.

"There was no reason to expect whatsoever that there'd be remains inside," he said.

Henning said the fire investigation has been stalled until more investigators can get on the scene, and he said to speculate on anything else was premature.

Adams County Coroner Jim Keller said the body is that of a woman. A post-mortem examination will be held on Tuesday to try and determine more information including possibly how long the body had been at the scene.

Keller said contact Quincy Police if anyone has any information about any missing women in the area.
