Hoping for Big Increase in Sales Volume

Anheuser-Busch InBev hopes the World Cup will deliver a significant increase in its beer volume across dozens of countries this year.

The event gives A-B InBev, which is an official World Cup sponsor, a chance to put its brands in front of hundreds of millions of new consumers, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to the newspaper, the stars have aligned for A-B InBev at the World Cup — which is being held in Brazil, where the brewer holds 70 percent of the market. And the company has a significant presence in the markets of 17 of the 32 teams that qualified for the event, including, of course, the United States.

Chief Executive Carlos Brito previously told analysts that the company has been preparing for the World Cup for four years. "Now it's time to execute," he said.

A-B InBev has forecasted that the World Cup will add 1 to 2 percentage points of annual sales volume in Brazil.
