Businesses, individuals welcome to participate
Canton, Mo. –This year’s Parade of Lights includes a free children’s movie, bonfire, music, and a visit from Jolly ‘Ole Saint Nick.
Canton’s Third Annual Parade of Lights is Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. But the fun starts an hour early with a short movie for the kids—“Shrek the Halls,” at the Lewis Street Playhouse.
In addition, the 4th Street Warehouse Jazz will have live music at the Canton Public Library beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing after the parade. A free will donation is suggested for the entertainment, with proceeds going toward the Buddy Pack Program.
The library also plays host to Santa that evening. Santa will be in the parade and available to visit with children after the parade at the library. Lewis Street Playhouse will offer concessions.
Any business, organization, or individual participating in the parade can have a motorized vehicle or trailer decorated in a holiday theme, and must have functional lighting. Parade participants are encouraged to hand out candy and other items, but are asked not to throw candy as it is a hazard to children at night.
Parade participants are asked to donate a minimum of $5 or a new unwrapped gift. The gifts will be donated to NECAC, and can be dropped off during business hours at Horner Insurance in downtown Canton. To register, stop by or call Richard Horner’s Shelter Insurance office at 573-288-3734.
All parade floats are to be in line on Second Street behind the school by 5:30 p.m. The parade steps off at the intersection of South Second and Washington streets, proceeds north to Lewis Street, turns west to South Fourth St., south to Montgomery Street, west to South Seventh St., north to Nesmith Street, east to North Sixth St., south to Route 16, east to North Fourth St., and south to Lewis Street, where it ends with a bonfire in Central Park with S’mores and more.
The Canton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the children’s movie, and the Canton Kiwanis are sponsoring the music.
