Advertising contract unanimously approved

The Quincy City Council unanimously approved the low bid for the Safe Routes for Schools project.

Aldermen voted 13-0 to approve the $2,950 bid for the AdForce Advertising Agency to develop commercials and brochures.

There was no discussion on the vote, which had been tabled twice when Alderman Terri Heinecke (R-7th Ward) had questions about the bid process in which Quincy Mayor John Spring said a mistake had been made when a local company was asked to bid a certain amount by an employee in the City's Planning and Development office.

Aldermen also heard first reading on the 2014 Fiscal Year budget. The $31.7 million spending plan will be voted in on two weeks.

Department heads will give the City Council details on their respective budgets this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Kroc Center.

The Council also accepted two recommendations from the Plan Commission: Approval of the special permit to use property located at 439 N. 3rd for vehicle sales and service and a zoning change from M1 (Light Industrial) to D4 (Downtown Industrial) for the north part of property located at 220 Oak.
