Monsanto presented a check for $2,500 to the Farm Bureau Foundation

The Adams County Farm Bureau celebrated its 100th anniversary with a dinner at the Oakley Lindsay Center Thursday night.

Guest speaker Max Armstrong spoke with farmers and agribusiness representatives about the need to tell their story to consumers and to policy makers alike.

During the celebration, Monsanto presented a check for 25 hundred dollars to the Farm Bureau Foundation.

The money comes from Monsanto's America's Farmers Grow Communities fund in which local farmers enter a drawing to win the honor of naming the organization they would like to help.

Tammie Smith was the winner in Adams County and she says she chose the Farm Bureau Foundation which funds Ag in the Classroom so that others youngsters could have the same experience as her 2 year old grandson when he visits the farm.

"It's hearing him and his excitement, as little as he is, realizing there's not a lot of children that have an opportunity to really know what's goes on, on a farm," Smith said.

Smith noted that when people, especially children in big cities talk about where their food comes from, "they think their food, their milk just come from a grocery store."

In addition to Ag in the Classroom - the Farm Bureau Foundation funds scholarships.
