Fire at Fountains Salon and Day Spa ruled accidental
UPDATE: An investigation has ruled that a Monday night downtown fire was accidental.
Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning said the fire at Fountains Salon and Day Spa, 121 N. 6th, was electrical and accidental in nature.
Henning said a small appliance started the fire.
Quincy firefighters responded to a downtown fire Monday night.
The 911 call came in at 9:30 p.m. at Fountains Salon and Day Spa, 121 N. 6th. It ended up being a two-alarm fire.
Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning said firefighters arrived to find fire on the first floor and spent more than an hour making sure the fire was contained to the one building.
Dan Griffin, who owns the building, said there were no occupants on the second and third floors of the building. Griffin said the owner of a neighboring business said she had smelled smoke earlier in the day. Fountains had been closed on Monday.
Several units were parked on 6th Street as the block between Maine and Hampshire was closed off. Firefighters fought the fire from the building’s east side.
