Moore to appoint Ray as city's comptroller

Legal team to go before aldermen again on Monday night

Mayor Kyle Moore is appointing Sheri Ray as the City’s new comptroller.

Ray worked as the deputy comptroller under Ann Scott, who Moore says remains as a City employee as of Friday as is City Engineer Jeff Steinkamp.

Along with Ray’s appointment, there is an item on the Quincy City Council agenda for Monday night that deals with the release of city personnel. It is expected that Scott and Steinkamp will be officially released following a closed executive session meeting.

Ray has been with the City since April 2000.

Moore said Ray, if appointed, will make $77,225, which is less than the $89,000 Scott was making. Moore said the city will not fill Ray’s position with a full-time person, but will fill it with a part-timer.

Moore also said IT Director Jim Murphy will assume the city’s purchasing duties. Moore said Murphy will receive no additional salary with those duties.

“I appreciate these city employees stepping up so we can leave a position unfilled,” Moore said.

Moore said the City will save nearly $78,000 by not filling the position or paying anyone extra to perform the purchasing duties.

Moore said there are ads on the City’s Website for an administrative assistant as well as for the Director of Administrative Services position.

Moore’s legal team of Corporation Counsel Lonnie Dunn, Assistant Corporation Counsel Bruce Alford and City Attorney Ryan Schnack are also expected to be approved after being tabled last week.
