The city didn't make improvements the franchise wanted in time

A national restaurant chain proposed to be housed in the previous Johnny Bang Bang’s location on Front and Hampshire is no longer coming to Quincy.
Front Street Five Holdings, LLC announced today the undisclosed franchise decided to withdraw its interest from Quincy because the City didn’t make needed improvements in the development of the riverfront area
The chain said while parking was a concern, there was also the issue that City Council wouldn’t pass an ordinance to a make Front and Hampshire a four-way stop. The City Council tabled a request for a four-way stop, saying they would approve it within 45 days of the restaurant's opening.

The City's rationale was that they wanted a guarantee the facility was indeed coming because they said once you put in a four-way stop, you can't remove it.

Although the chain is no longer looking at Quincy as a future location, the restaurant is still interested in the Quincy market, but is instead looking toward Hannibal, MO and even West Quincy, MO as possible alternatives.

The chain will not disclose its identity because of talks with potential developers.

Duane Venvertloh of Front Street Five said they are disappointed about the change but are still excited about the re-development of the former Johnny Bang Bang’s property. They had conversations with several national chains and will continue to search for a new use for the property.
