Quincy Mayor opens campaign headquarters

Quincy Mayor John Spring welcomed residents Friday night

Quincy Mayor John Spring invited people to see his new mayoral headquarters on 729 Hampshire Friday night.

Spring said he wanted this to just be a time to say hi to residents and have a good evening.

While moving forward in the mayoral election, Spring said he wants to begin with one message.

“We just want to keep Quincy moving forward, which I promised to do eight years ago, and I think I have a great track record. We’ve weathered through some really difficult financial times, and we’ve continued to have good balance budgets,” said Spring. “We’ve had eight years of balanced budgets, we’ve had three years in a row where we’ve lowered the citizen tax rate and at the same time we’ve continued to provide great city services.”

One aspect of Republican mayoral candidate and Third Ward Alderman Kyle Moore’s plan is the Quincy Scorecard. He proposes Quincy measure how much work the city is getting done for its residents through its city services.

When asked if Spring believes the scorecard would benefit Quincy, he said “No.”

“I think people are very pleased with their city services. I think that Moore may not realize we measure everything anyway. We know exactly how long it takes us to repair water service, we track all of that. The only thing we might not track is if we have people out putting coal patch in pot holes,” said Spring. “I think we deliver great city services, and I really believe that all the Quincy residents treasure the city services. After all, it’s what you see right outside your own window, it’s making sure your streets are cleaned, garbage is picked up and that everything works in your house.”

Spring for Mayor signs, notepads, pens, etc are available at the headquarters for supporters to pick up and display.
