$2.2 million levy is a 1.3 percent increase from last year
The Quincy Park District Board of Commissioners approved a 1.3 percent increase in its tax levy Wednesday night.
Commissioners approved a tax rate of 38.9 cents per $100 assessed valuation, an increase from 38.5 cents.
That rate will generate a $2.2 million tax levy, an increase of $28,602 from last year.
The increase means an additional $1.13 to your tax bill if your home is valued at $100,000.
The Board has decided Executive Director Ed Seger will stay on in that role and end a search for a new leader for the Park District. Park Board President John Frankenhoff said the District will not fill Seger’s old job as Director of Parks, saving the District about $70,000.
“Things are going well and Ed is willing to stay on,” Frankenhoff said.” There’s no formal action because we never put an end date when we put him in that role.”
Commissioners also approved issuing $800,000 in general obligation bonds for park improvements and capital purchase. The bonds will be repaid with tax revenues by next November.
Commissioners got a first look at the Park District’s 2013 budget that will be voted on next month. The projected budget is $10.4 million.
Greg Feldberg was sworn in as the Park Board’s newest member. Feldberg works for Stifel Nicholas. He has taken out petitions to run for a seat next spring. Frankenhoff, Commissioner Patty McGlothlin have also taken out petitions along with Chris Blakeman and Abby Schlipman.
Feldberg replaced Tom Behrens, who stepped down last month. Commissioner Jeff VanCamp will take Behrens’s place as vice president of the board and chairman of the finance committee.
The Board approved a new fee schedule for Park District programs and will establish family season passes for $150 for Wavering Aquatic Center and Indian Mounds Pool. Click here for a list of the program fee schedule changes.
The Park District will open bids for renovations of its new headquarters on Bonansinga Drive on December 5. The Park District purchased a 10,000 square foot building on a little more than 12 acres at 1231 Bonansinga Drive for $875,000 last month after approving the purchase in April..
Renovations to the building to convert it to Park District office space are expected to cost about $250,000.
