Sales tax revenues decline in November

After keeping pace for most of 2011, the City of Quincy saw a sharp sales tax revenue decline in November.

Sales tax revenue was $758,483 in November, which was down from $792,587 in November 2010.

Home Rule Sales Tax Revenue saw an even bigger decline, dropping from $841,266 in November 2010 to $805,242 last November.

City officials are tracking revenues closely as they are in the process of preparing the 2012-2013 budget which will be voted on in April.

In other action, Aldermen approved the low proposal from Peters Heating and Air Conditioning of $48,557 for the replacement of the heating and air conditioning system at Central Fire Station.  The City is using a “green energy” federal grant to pay for the system, which is replacing the building's original heating system that was installed in 1924.

The Council also approved the low quote of Asphalt Stone Company of Jacksonville of $4,500 for expansion joint milling on runways at Quincy Regional Airport.
