REBEL MEDIA: Compensation vs. salary

1 year, 8 months ago by

I posted some salary comparisons last week in the comments section on the sick pay buy back story.

It turns out they were not apples to apples comparisons.

The numbers listed in the City of Quincy's annual Treasurer's Report also include sick pay buy back and overtime.

The Springfield numbers are straight salary numbers.

For example, a Springfield Police lieutenant is at $94,800 while a Quincy Police lieutenant is at $80,274. Those are the base numbers. The Quincy number, in this case, included the sickpay buy back of $3,704.

The Quincy Fire Department captain numbers also included the sick pay buy back as well.

I don't know what the sick pay buy back policy is for Springfield. I don't know what their overtime policy is either.

I do know that people in the private sector leave Quincy for larger markets for higher pay because the cost of living in metropolitan areas is higher.

These salaries will be posted again in a couple of months with the new City of Quincy treasurer's report. It will be interesting to track the increases and see how large their raises really have been over the last year.

And no matter how some want to parse or downplay their sick pay buy back bonuses, they are real. And the are something that is virtually unheard of anywhere else.
