Gov. Quinn lawyer acknowledges inspector probe

1 year, 5 months ago from Associated Press

A lawyer representing Gov. Pat Quinn's administration has publicly acknowledged an investigation by Illinois' inspector general of hiring practices under the Democrat.

Attorney Brent Stratton was responding to a question Tuesday from a federal judge in Chicago overseeing a civil case.

Tuesday's hearing focused on a motion last week by Chicago attorney Michael Shakman asking for a separate investigation into Quinn's hiring practices.

The issue has arisen at an inopportune time for Quinn. He's in a tight gubernatorial race against Republican Bruce Rauner.

Judge Sidney Schenkier had asked Stratton at Tuesday's hearing if filings mentioning an ongoing investigation by the inspector general's office were accurate. Stratton responded: "That's our understanding that's correct."

The inspector general's office typically doesn't confirm the existence of investigations. Messages for agency spokesmen weren't immediately returned.
