2 years, 5 months ago by

No one was injured in the IED incidents, but they were capable of causing harm

The Quincy Police Department is investigating two recent incidents involving improvised explosive devices.

One of the IEDs was detonated prior to the incident in Boston Monday.

No one was injured during either incident. Although both IEDs were small, they were capable of causing serious harm to anyone near to them at the time of their detonation.

The first IED was found in the 1700 block of Jackson.  It was detonated sometime between 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 14th and 2:30 pm on Monday, April 15th.  This IED consisted of a CO2 cartridge and a number of BBs wrapped in newspaper and duct tape.  The only known damage was to a nearby residence.

The second IED was found in the 2000 block of Hampshire.  It was detonated just prior to 8:30 pm on Monday, April 15th.  This IED was what is commonly called a “soda bottle bomb” and did not appear to have any method for discharging shrapnel.

Residents are cautioned to stay away from any suspicious objects that have the potential to be a similar device and should immediately call 9-1-1.

If anyone has any information about the previously mentioned devices, please contact the Quincy Police Department (217-228-4470) or provide the information through Quincy Regional CrimeStoppers (217-228-4474).
