Joe Tokarz has been in more than 1,000 performances of the musical
After a national casting call, Quincy Community Theatre has signed professional actor Joe Tokarz to play the role of Jean Valjean in its thrilling 400th production and the world’s longest-running musical LES MISÉRABLES (July 17-27).
As part of QCT’s Guest Artist Program—designed to bring professional actors, directors, and writers to the Tri-States—Tokarz is slated to work closely with community volunteer actors throughout the rehearsal process and will host a special master class for aspiring actors and actresses.
An Illinois native, Joe Tokarz has spent the better part of the last five years performing in different productions of Les Misérables, including the 25th Anniversary National Tour, Paper Mill Playhouse, Drury Lane Theatre, Marriott Theatre, Flat Rock Playhouse, & Beef and Board Dinner Theatre productions. With experience both as Jean Valjean & Javert, Tokarz has well over 1,000 performances under his belt of this iconic musical.
Tokarz also had the honor of appearing on the 2013 Oscars with the movie cast of Les Misérables performing “One Day More.” Other credits include Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar (Broadway World Nomination-Best Actor), Dan in Next to Normal, and the Grand Inquisitor in Mary Zimmerman's Candide. As a devoted fundraiser for Autism Speaks, Joe runs yearly at Walt Disney World in order to raise money and awareness for such a wonderful cause.
"I am truly honored to be a part of this production, and bring this beautiful story of redemption and love to Quincy,” shares Tokarz. “Having performed in this show for years, the opportunity to share this story with this community and work with a production staff willing to make it their own and find the heart of this story makes me so unbelievably excited."
Epic, grand and uplifting, LES MISÉRABLES, the world’s longest-running musical, sweeps its audience through an unforgettable tale of passion and destruction in 19th century France. Discover a nation in the grip of revolution, where convict Jean Valjean is on the run. Hunted relentlessly by the policeman Javert for breaking his parole, he must leave his past behind and keep his vow to raise the young orphaned Cosette. But with revolution in the air and Javert closing in, Jean Valjean has no choice but to fight for his life and sacrifice everything to protect the people he loves.
